BM Gordon College
Dawn Rockwell has been teaching Suzuki piano since 2003. In that time, she has completed the "Every Child Can!" program, as well as training for Piano Books 1-4, with teacher trainers Mary Craig Powell and the late Doris Koppelman.
Before teaching piano, Dawn achieved her Bachelor's of Music Education from Gordon College in Wenham, MA, with voice as her primary instrument. Following her love for working with children, she took Dr. John Feierabend's "First Steps in Music" course at the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, CT, and began teaching in an early childhood education program. Upon hearing of the Suzuki Early Childhood Education program, she took the level 1 training during summer 2009 with the program's author, world-renowned teacher-trainer, Dorothy Jones of London, Ontario, Canada; she then completed level 2 of the training in 2010 with Dorothy and her daughter, Sharon. Dawn implemented the program at the Bethwood Suzuki Music School of Seymour, CT, where she also taught piano. She continues teaching both at the Suzuki Music Schools of Westport and Orange.
Dawn is one of the cantors at her home church in Milford, where she leads a capella congregational singing each week. This follows years of singing with traveling ensembles, such as "Greater Love", the "Gordon College Choir," and the "Gordon College Chamber Singers," in addition to dramatic productions & musicals, including "Cheaper By the Dozen," (Ernestine), "The Hiding Place" (Corrie Ten Boom), and "The Music Man" (Eulalie McKecknie Shinn).
Dawn began her Suzuki experience as a violin parent 10 years ago. Her younger son, Joseph, is currently studying in Book 6 at the Suzuki Music School of Orange, and her older son, Jacob has been studying percussion since 2005, through public school and private instruction.
