MM Manhattan School of Music
A native of Tokyo, Japan, pianist Hanako Yamagata Greenberg is currently an active teacher and instrumental accompanist in New York City. After studies with Shizuko Suzuki (sister of Shunichi Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki School) in Japan and Dr. David Buechner as a MM student at the Manhattan School of Music, Ms. Yamagata has performed frequently with the Martha Graham Dance Company, and collaborates with varied and accomplished instrumentalists from the New York area. In addition to being a Teaching Artist at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, starting in 2006, she has been an accompanist for International Conductors Workshop in Prague and staff accompanist for the Joseph Alessi Trombone Seminar.
Ms. Yamagata is currently on the K-12 piano faculty of the Spence School and accompanying staff of the Juilliard School. Recent recitals include performances with Joseph Alessi and James Markey (Principal Trombone and Bass Trombone, respectively of the New York Philharmonic. CD recordings include Listening with Denson Paul Pollard and Act I with Weston Sprott, both of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Ms. Yamagata is happy to have recently joined the adjunct piano faculty of New Jersey City University and teaches “The Art of Accompanying” there. Ms. Yamagata currently lives and maintains a private teaching studio in Riverdale, NY. She is the very proud mother of Daniel Haruki (age 2) and Joshua Izak (age 10 months).
