Guitarist Sven Rainey is pleased to join the faculty at the Suzuki Music School of Westport and Orange, and brings twelve years of studio teaching experience.  Sven originally began musical studies at age eight with the Suzuki method in violin, and undertook guitar study at fifteen at Southeast Missouri State University.

Currently, Sven is pursuing his terminal degree in classical guitar as a doctoral student at the Hartt School of Music.  He is in the studio of guitarist, scholar, and author Richard Provost, and was selected to receive a performance scholarship.  As a student, his plans are to have minor concentrations both in Music History and Guitar Pedagogy, and will be receiving his Suzuki training as well.

Recently, Sven completed a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Conservatory studying with the renowned pedagogue Julian Gray.  While attending, he was a teaching assistant at the Freidheim Music Library, and assisted with the processing and cataloging the personal music collection of the late jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd. As a Peabody student, Sven became active with Creative Access, a student run performance organization that specializes in bringing music to under-served audiences.  As an advocate for the arts, he enjoyed playing and interacting with audiences in diverse locations such as after school youth programs, and assisted living centers.

Sven completed his Master’s degree in 2005 at the University of Nevada Las Vegas studying with recording and concert artist Ricardo Cobo.  While there, he held a graduate assistantship teaching Class Guitar and undergraduate guitar majors.
As a chamber musician, Sven has performed in guitar orchestras and ensembles as well as a variety of mixed ensembles.  Recently, he was a section leader of the Peabody Guitar Orchestra for a performance of Concerto de Los Angeles with the acclaimed guitarist Bill Kanengiser as the soloist.  Previously, Sven was featured with the Desert Spring Arts Chorus and Orchestra in the works Missa Criolla, and Navidad Nuestra by Argentinian composer Ariel Rameriz.  From 2005-2010 he collaborated with flutist Dr. Kristi Benedick as the Avila Duo.  The duo performed recitals at University of Nevada Las Vegas and Southeast Missouri State, and attended the Chamber Music Institute the University of Nebraska at Lincoln on a fellowship.

As a gigging musician, Sven has performed in the greater Baltimore/DC area and the Las Vegas entertainment corridor.  Types of performances include private parties, community concert series, receptions, weddings, art gallery openings, musical theater productions, and feature performances.  Notable venues include the Venetian Hotel and Casino, the Forum Shoppes, and the Lake Las Vegas Resort area. Clients included individuals as well as companies such as the BMW Corporation.

As an instructor, Sven has taught private students for twelve years, and has maintained full studios at the Brill Music Academy in Las Vegas, and Music and Arts centers in the greater Washington DC area.  He has taught sections of Class Guitar at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and Rock Band and Songwriting camps at the Brill Music Academy.
