Matthew Weber is a Fairfield County based double bassist, electric bassist, music educator, and luthier. For seven years Matthew held the position of associate principal bassist of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, was a principal pool member of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, and was a core member of the North Czech Chamber Ensemble.
Passionate about music from a young age, Matthew began his musical studies at the age of twelve playing Double bass, Electric bass, and Cello. He went on to major in classical Double bass, studying with Metropolitan Opera principal bassist, Timothy Cobb. Matthew holds a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College.
A versatile and well traveled bassist, he has performed with the New Jersey, Richmond, Hartford, Portland (ME), Riverside, Greenwich, and Virginia Symphony Orchestras, as well as the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, Hudson Valley Philharmonic, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Orchestra New England, and toured France, England, Belgium, Russia, Germany and China with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.
Matthew has performed with The Halle Orchestra as guest assistant principal bass, and played as principal bassist under the late Ennio Morricone on his final European tour.
He has also performed at the BBC Proms, Look & Listen Festival, MATA Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Luzerne Music Center, and the Lake George Music Festival.
As a devoted teacher Matthew has taught through the Juilliard Goldman Fellowship for Arts Enrichment, as well as the Music Advancement Program, a program for talented young musicians at the Juilliard School. Between 2012 and 2015 he held a bass faculty position at the Turtle Bay Music School, and from 2015-2016 was double bass and chamber music faculty at the Luzerne Music Center. He has served as a performing associate, and teaching assistant to bassist Kurt Muroki at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.
In addition to classical music Matthew is proficient in playing many genres of music from world to metal, and regularly records with artists from around the world.
He has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon, Phillip Glass, Universal Music, the metal band Eros, and the pop singer Johann Lenox.
